Vista FIX: failed to format the selected partition. [Error: 0x80004005]
Okay, so I didn’t come up with this fix myself. I found it online after about an hour of tedious searching. If I can save anyone the trouble then I’d love to do so.
I was running OpenSuse 10.2 and my mother refuses to use Linux so after one of our computers died out I needed to change an old Linux box back to windows for her. I have a windows Vista 32bit CD that I ran from BIOS and I was getting this error: failed to format the selected partition. [Error: 0x80004005].
At the time I had 3 partitions, 1 for root, 1 for backup, 1 for my main data. Every time I tried to reformat one of the partitions that big honker would come up.
And the solution is…delete the partitions, format them if you still have to, and then the install will work fine.
